Spotlight on Slovakia
26m
Peer into a recreated Čičmany house to admire intricate hand-carved furniture and fabulous kroje (traditional clothing) and imagine what life is like in a Slovak village.
Explore Slovak legends such as Juraj Jánošík, a famous outlaw who lived between the 17th and 18th centuries in Terchova (northwest Slovakia) and still represents so much for Slovaks. He is a symbol of Slovak resistance to oppression and has been the subject of many films, novels, and poems. According to legend, he robbed from the rich to give to the poor.
Learn about notable Slovak people, music, traditional pottery, art, and so much more. Artifacts from Slovakia are among the most beautiful and intriguing in the NCSML collection of over 20,000 items. This exhibition showcases the best of our Slovak collection, including fabulous Modra pottery, stunning folk dress, intricately carved wooden items, musical instruments, and paintings.
This exhibit is made possible with the generosity of Linda Woytisek.
