NCSML welcomes Tomáš Foltýn, General Director of the National Library of the Czech Republic, for a special presentation entitled, "When the Secret of Secrets Becomes Reality." This is the first time a representative from the National Library has visited NCSML. Learn about the National Library and collaborations between the Czech Republic and the U.S.
About Tomáš Foltýn: The National Library of Czech Republic appointed Tomáš Foltýn as general director in 2021.
Foltýn graduated at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Pardubice, where he completed his master studies in the field of cultural history in 2008. From 2007 he worked in the Digitization Department of the National Library of Czech Republic, first as Project Manager, then as Head of the Metadata Creation and Management Department. From February 2012, he held the position of the Head of the Strategic Planning Department for the Digitization of Library Collections. In January 2013, he was appointed Director of the Collections Management Division. Since 1 May 2021, he is Director-General of the National Library of the Czech Republic.
Foltýn is involved in various national and international research projects, he is an expert guarantor of the ministerial Funding Mechanism for digitization of endangered acid-paper library materials, regular member of the Central Library Council of the Czech Republic, regular board member of the IFLA Digital Humanities/Digital Scholarship Special Interest Group, and also member of the CASLIN (Czech and Slovak Library Information Network) international conference program committee. From the professional perspective, he is interested especially in the area of efficient management of library collections and long-term preservation of modern collections including the digital content. In recent years, he has involved himself in various activities connected with digital humanities.
